Buldhana: Confusion Reigns Among Residents Over Divided Shiv Sena’s Symbols

In Buldhana, concerns have been raised about confusion among rural residents and the elderly regarding the new symbol of the divided Shiv Sena. Many residents are reportedly unclear about the new ‘mashaal’ (flaming torch) symbol, leading to fears that they may mistakenly vote for the incumbent Shiv Sena candidate, who is contesting with the ‘danush-baan’ (bow and arrow) symbol. This could potentially benefit the incumbent, who has won the seat three times previously.

The confusion stems from the fact that many residents have traditionally associated the Shiv Sena with the ‘danush-baan’ symbol and may not be aware of the new symbol adopted by Shiv Sena (UBT) after the party split. Party workers and activists from Shiv Sena (UBT) are concerned that this may ultimately work in favor of the incumbent, who is supported by Eknath Shinde.

The Buldhana Lok Sabha seat has historically been a stronghold of the Shiv Sena, but the recent split has created a challenging scenario for both sides. The constituency encompasses vast agricultural expanses in the western region of Vidarbha and is scheduled for polling in the second phase on April 26.

The current MP from Shiv Sena, Prataprao Jadhav, is facing off against Prof. Narendra Khedekar from Shiv Sena (UBT) in what promises to be a closely contested battle. However, party workers from Shiv Sena (UBT) have expressed concerns over insufficient funds hindering their ability to conduct door-to-door outreach.

Shailaja Thakre, the Shiv Sena (UBT) deputy head of Shegaon zilla parishad, emphasized the commitment of Sena members to Balasaheb Thackeray’s legacy and their support for his family. She also highlighted the financial constraints faced by party workers, who are struggling to fund their campaign activities.

Meanwhile, Prof. Narendra Khedekar has dismissed the significance of the Shiv Sena Vs Shiv Sena divide, asserting that people are disenchanted with the incumbent MP and even the BJP. He expressed confidence that voters will support him based on his work on the ground.

The political composition of Buldhana is diverse, with various parties holding seats in the Lok Sabha and assembly constituencies. The six assembly constituencies that make up the Buldhana Lok Sabha seat are currently held by a mix of BJP, Shiv Sena, and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) representatives.
