A shocking incident of negligence and callousness has come to light in Tamil Nadu, India, where a bus crew abandoned the body of a deceased passenger and his relatives on a desolate highway.
The incident involved a government bus traveling from Villupuram to Chennai. Bhima Mandavi, a 60-year-old man from Chhattisgarh, was traveling with his relatives, Ashok Kumar Oyan (19) and Kajunu (20), when he fell critically ill and died on the bus.
Instead of taking Mandavi’s body to the nearest hospital or contacting the police, the bus driver, Ramkumar, and conductor, Rasool Rahman, decided to abandon the deceased and his relatives on the roadside in the middle of the night. They cited delays and potential legal complications as their reasons for this inhumane act.
Left stranded on a dark stretch of highway, Ashok and Kajunu, who spoke no Tamil, struggled to find help. Their distress was eventually noticed by passersby who stepped in to assist them. Meanwhile, the bus driver continued his journey.
The incident only came to light three days later due to public outrage on social media. Under the Tamil Nadu Registration of Birth and Death Rules, government employees are obligated to notify the police in such cases.
Following a complaint, the TNSTC Villupuram bus driver, Ramkumar, was dismissed, and the conductor, Rasool Rahman, was suspended. This incident highlights the shocking disregard for human life and the need for stricter accountability measures for such irresponsible behavior.
