The spokesperson for Bushra Bibi, Mashal Yousafzai, alleged that on Shab e Barat, February 24, “toilet cleaner” was mixed into the food of the wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan. Yousafzai claimed that Bibi’s health deteriorated after consuming the meal and has been worsening daily. She expressed concern that Bibi had no pre-existing health conditions before her arrest, raising suspicions about the cause of her declining health.
Yousafzai questioned why Bibi’s medical tests had not been conducted despite court orders for three weeks, speculating about possible interference preventing the authorities from carrying out the necessary examinations. She cited an endoscopy revealing ulceration and inflammation in Bibi’s stomach but noted that a blood test had not been performed despite court directives. The PTI requested that the blood test be conducted by Al-Shifa Hospital and cross-checked at the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital to determine the presence of any toxic elements in Bibi’s blood.
Yousafzai reported that Bibi recently experienced chest and left arm pain, prompting an ECG by the jail doctor, which showed abnormal results. The jail doctor informed the administration, but it took several hours for doctors from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) to arrive for a check-up. Yousafzai highlighted the difference in treatment compared to former prime minister Benazir Bhutto and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, suggesting that Bibi’s status as a housewife may be contributing to the alleged neglect.
Last week, a comprehensive medical evaluation of Bushra Bibi was performed under the observation of Khan’s family physician, with doctors at a private hospital declaring her to be in good health. However, Bibi refused to undergo a blood test or provide a blood sample, despite undergoing various other diagnostic tests. The hospital sources indicated that Khan’s physician, Dr. Asim Yousuf, was present during the check-up and cleared Bibi’s medical reports, except for a minor gastric issue.
