Cable Company Worker Electrocuted in Upstate New York

A man working on a utility pole in rural Berne, New York, was electrocuted early Friday morning when low-hanging wires made contact with the basket of his truck, according to police. The cable company worker was performing routine maintenance at around 2:30 a.m. when the incident occurred. The unidentified 56-year-old man was working alone and was pronounced dead at the scene. Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple told the Times-Union of Albany that the wires touched the basket of the Spectrum truck, causing the man to be electrocuted and the truck to explode and catch fire. Workers often perform equipment maintenance and upgrades overnight to prevent service interruptions during high-usage hours. Charter Communications, Spectrum’s parent company, expressed its condolences to the victim’s family and colleagues. Spokesperson Lara Pritchard said in an email that the incident was a “tragic accident” and that the victim had been with the company for more than 25 years.
