Cadillac is taking its iconic Escalade into the electric age with the Escalade IQ. This opulent SUV promises to be one of the most luxurious electric vehicles on the market, with a design that blends modern style with classic Escalade cues.
Design
The Escalade IQ features a striking design with a massive faux grille, vertical headlights, and an imposing Cadillac logo. The overall aesthetic is reminiscent of the Cadillac Lyriq, the brand’s first major electric vehicle release. It boasts a larger size than the standard Escalade, measuring in at 224.3 inches long and 85.3 inches wide, and it rides on massive 24-inch wheels. The rear design deviates from the current Escalade with a more curved look, giving the IQ a sportier, modern feel.
Price
As with its gas-powered counterpart, the Escalade IQ commands a hefty price tag, starting at $127,700. This places it among the most expensive electric SUVs currently available. Cadillac has yet to officially announce all available models and trim levels, so expect the price range to extend upwards.
Release Date
The Escalade IQ is slated to be released as part of the 2025 model year, with production commencing in summer 2024 in Michigan. Cadillac anticipates making the SUV available for purchase in the fourth quarter of 2024, although availability may be limited depending on supply chain conditions.
Colors and Models
Cadillac has announced four trims for the Escalade IQ: Luxury 1, Luxury 2, Sport 1, and Sport 2. The “1” models, while considered the more affordable options, still offer an impressive estimated range of 460 miles. Both Luxury 1 and Sport 1 include features like a 19-speaker AKG sound system, air suspension, and 24-inch wheels. The Luxury 2 and Sport 2 models upgrade to a 36-speaker AKG system, along with 16-way power seating and massage seats. The differences between the Luxury and Sport models appear primarily aesthetic rather than performance-based. Cadillac offers a diverse range of colors for the Escalade IQ, including various shades of white, gray, black, blue, and deep reds.
Charging Speed and Range
The Escalade IQ is built on General Motors’ Ultium battery platform, promising a remarkable range of 460 miles. This puts it ahead of most other electric vehicles currently on the market, with the exception of the Lucid Air. While the 460-mile range is Cadillac’s estimate, it’s likely the official EPA rating will be slightly lower. The Escalade IQ comes equipped with an NACS connector and boasts a fast-charging rate of 100 miles of range every 10 minutes. Cadillac confirms that the Escalade IQ will support 350kW fast-charging as standard, allowing for maximum charging speeds currently available.
Performance
The Escalade IQ prioritizes a luxurious driving experience, but that doesn’t mean it lacks speed. Cadillac states that the IQ can reach 60 miles per hour in under five seconds, an impressive feat for a vehicle of its size and weight. The IQ also features rear-wheel steering as standard, helping to reduce the turning circle and enhance stability. Cadillac claims that the IQ can even move diagonally out of a parking space, proving its agility.
Tech Features
The interior of the Escalade IQ is brimming with advanced technology. A massive 55-inch display stretches across the dashboard, similar to the Hyperscreen found in the Mercedes EQS. While CarPlay and Android Auto are not supported, the system utilizes Android Automotive, providing access to Google apps and services. The overall software experience mirrors the Cadillac Lyriq, delivering a solid, but not extraordinary, user interface. The optional Executive Second Row seats offer additional tech features, including 12.6-inch rear headrest monitors for private entertainment, fold-out tray tables, and reclining seats. The Escalade IQ also benefits from advanced autonomous driving technology, including Cadillac’s Super Cruise system for hands-free highway driving.
Tax Credit Status
Due to its starting price of $130,000, the Cadillac Escalade IQ does not qualify for the federal tax credit for electric vehicles. The current limit for EV tax credits is $80,000.
