Caitlin Clark, the former college basketball phenom and first overall pick in the WNBA draft, is reportedly set to make waves in the league off the court as well. According to sources, Clark is poised to sign an eight-year deal with Nike worth up to $28 million, a substantial contract that is said to include her own signature Nike sneakers.
Clark’s deal with Nike marks a significant development for the women’s basketball landscape, as sneaker deals have historically been rare in the WNBA. She joins Sabrina Ionescu, the 2020 WNBA first overall pick, as one of the few active players with such an endorsement.
Nike’s move to sign Clark aligns with its focus on expanding its women’s business, which currently accounts for only 22% of its sales. The deal represents a strategic effort by Nike to drive greater interest in underrepresented areas such as women’s team sports.
