Cal Poly Humboldt Campus Closed After Protesters Barricade Themselves in Building
Cal Poly Humboldt has closed its campus through Wednesday due to safety concerns after dozens of pro-Palestinian protesters barricaded themselves inside Siemens Hall, a primary building on campus. The action is the latest in a series of protests over the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.
On Monday, protesters took over Siemens Hall, while another group demonstrated outside. Law enforcement in riot gear responded and a standoff ensued. Video from the scene showed a clash, and at least one demonstrator sustained a head injury. Three people were reportedly dragged out of the building, but other protesters remained inside after law enforcement cleared the scene before 11 p.m. School officials stated that classes will be conducted remotely when possible.
The closure of Cal Poly Humboldt’s campus follows similar protests at other university campuses across the country in response to the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The university emphasized that the closure was implemented to ensure the safety of its students.
