In a scathing address at a rally in East Burdwan, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee condemned the Calcutta High Court’s decision to terminate the jobs of 25,757 teachers. She questioned the court’s authority to strip so many individuals of their livelihood, especially considering the crucial role teachers play in society and the education system. Banerjee pointed out the BJP’s alleged involvement in the job cuts, accusing them of filing PILs that were accepted by the court while other petitions were dismissed. She drew parallels with bail being granted to criminals and questioned the BJP’s stance on law and order. Banerjee, who holds a law degree, declared her willingness to appear in court wearing a lawyer’s gown and appealed to the affected teachers not to vote for the BJP. She emphasized the importance of protecting jobs and ensuring the proper functioning of schools, expressing concern about the impact of the job losses on the education system. Banerjee concluded by urging the people of Bengal not to support the BJP, which she alleged orchestrated the job cuts.
