Caleb Surratt, the youngest player in the LIV Golf League, is making waves in the golf world. Having already secured three team titles, the 20-year-old is taking on a new challenge this week, teeing up for the first time on the Asian Tour at the International Series Morocco.
Last year, Surratt turned heads by winning three out of four points in his Walker Cup debut, showcasing his talent on the international stage. This impressive performance led to him turning professional and signing with Jon Rahm’s Legion XIII team at the start of the LIV Golf season.
Surratt quickly found his stride, achieving two top-15 finishes in his first two tournaments, in Mayakoba and Las Vegas. His strong showing in Mayakoba helped Legion XIII win their first team title, marking a promising start to his professional career. The team went on to claim victories in Miami and Nashville, solidifying their position in the league.
The International Series Morocco is a new challenge for Surratt, offering a chance to compete against a diverse field of players and gain valuable experience. The event, taking place on the Royal Golf Dar Es Salam’s Red Course from July 4-7, is the third of ten elevated events on the Asian Tour, providing a direct pathway to the LIV Golf League.
The International Series also offers LIV Golf roster players a chance to sharpen their game while competing for big money purses at world-class destinations. Major champions like Brooks Koepka, Patrick Reed, Charl Schwartzel, and Louis Oosthuizen have all participated in the International Series, showcasing the high level of competition.
Surratt will use the event in Rabat to prepare for the LIV Golf Andalucia in Spain the following week. He will be joined by several LIV Golf League stars, including Peter Uihlein, Graeme McDowell, Branden Grace, and Eugenio Chacarra.
Surratt is excited about his debut in Morocco, stating: “I am excited. It is a privilege because I have never been to Morocco before. To be honest, I haven’t really been abroad too much at all, so I am really excited for it and will prepare my best for it. I have heard nothing but awesome things about The International Series and the golf course in Morocco. I am excited to be making my debut there.”
Surratt is aware of the success stories of other players who have graduated from the Asian Tour to the LIV Golf League, including Andy Ogletree and his Legion XIII teammate Kieran Vincent. He is impressed by the quality of players emerging from the Asian Tour, stating, “Obviously the cream is going to rise to the top and that is a great thing for a tour to produce, you cannot fake it. They (the Asian Tour) are clearly doing something right.”
The International Series presents a valuable learning experience for Surratt, allowing him to adapt to different environments and playing styles. He recognizes the importance of learning how to travel and compete on an international level, stating, “Part of the whole deal is even just learning how to travel as it is harder to go from country to country and adapt rather than state to state, and that’s part of the experience The International Series provides. The players know how to adapt, and I am excited for that.”
Surratt, a former All-American, SEC champion, and freshman of the year at the University of Tennessee, is continuing his education in the professional world. He is learning from his captain, Jon Rahm, and other experienced professionals, stating: “Especially for a younger player like myself, to be able to go out and play with these guys directly out of college has been life changing. The amount of information I have learned and the amount of confidence I have gained, being able to compete with these guys, is second to none for me.”
He is grateful for the opportunity to learn from Rahm, stating: “To be able to come straight from college and be one of Jon Rahm’s right-hand men, on a daily basis, is vital for my learning. It is cool to be able to get comfortable around him, because if you can get comfortable and compete with him you can do it with anybody.”
The International Series Morocco, taking place from July 4-7 at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam in Rabat, marks a significant step in Surratt’s promising career. The event will provide him with valuable experience and further fuel his growth as a professional golfer.
