California Gas Station Charges Over $7 per Gallon, but Price Is an Outlier

A California gas station has garnered significant attention this week after charging over $7 per gallon for fuel. Scott Budman captured a photo of a Chevron station in Menlo Park, California, displaying a price of $7.29 for regular unleaded gasoline. However, upon further investigation, it appears that this price is an outlier compared to other gas stations in the area. Other gas stations in Menlo Park were found to be averaging around $5.50 per gallon, while the average gas price in the San Francisco region was reported to be $5.62 per gallon, according to GasBuddy. California holds the distinction of being the only state with an average gas price exceeding $5 per gallon. As of Wednesday, California’s average gas price stood at $5.41 per gallon, representing a difference of $1.75 from the national average. Nationwide, the average price of gasoline has increased by 13 cents in the past month, as reported by AAA. AAA anticipates that the coming weeks may bring price fluctuations in the gasoline market. According to Andrew Gross, a spokesperson for AAA, the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine have contributed to uncertainty in the oil market. However, Gross also notes that the period between the end of spring break and Memorial Day typically brings a lull in gasoline demand, which could potentially lead to a slight fluctuation in the national average gas price, with small price increases, stable days, and even occasional price decreases.
