The May Lee State Office Complex, located at 651 Bannon Street, is described as ‘one of the largest zero-net carbon facilities in the country.’ The 1.25 million gross square foot complex includes four buildings, a parking structure with spots for 90 EV charging stations and the potential to accommodate 5,000 state workers. The complex is the first major step toward realizing the City of Sacramento’s vision for the River District.
The complex will be the largest all-electric, zero-carbon building complex in the U.S. … providing a case study for how a campus of this scale and complexity can be decarbonized by the holistic approach to minimizing its carbon footprint.
May Lee was the longest-serving California state worker with 79 years of service. Lee began with the Department of Finance in 1943 before moving to the Department of General Services. She was 102 when she died in 2023.
‘She will always be remembered for her cheerful disposition and irreplaceable institutional knowledge,’ read the news release.
