Canada’s women’s 3×3 basketball team continued their winning streak by claiming the title at the first stop of the 2024 Women’s Series in Springfield, Massachusetts. The two-time defending champions faced a formidable challenge against the United States, but their experience and teamwork prevailed, leading them to a narrow 20-18 victory. Katherine Plouffe of Edmonton emerged as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player with her impressive performance in the final game, scoring seven points and grabbing five rebounds. Her twin sister, Michelle Plouffe, contributed eight points, while Paige Crozon of Humboldt, Saskatchewan, sank the crucial two-pointer that broke the tie in the final minute. Despite their success on the Women’s Series circuit, Canada’s sights are set on qualifying for the upcoming Paris Olympics. They will have two opportunities to secure a spot, beginning with a tournament in Utsunomiya, Japan, from May 3-5. Subsequently, they will compete in Debrecen, Hungary, from May 16-19, where three of the sixteen participating teams will earn the remaining Olympic berths. While Canada’s men’s 3×3 basketball team will only participate in the latter tournament, the Women’s Series will resume on May 29 with a stop in Marseille, France.
