Meriam Jarjour is distraught after discovering that the body repatriated from Cuba was not her father’s. The body had a full head of hair, tattoos, and appeared significantly younger, bearing no resemblance to her father.
After her father, Faraj Allah Jarjour, died from a heart attack while swimming in Cuba, the family hired Asistur, a company recommended by the Canadian consulate, to handle the repatriation process. However, upon opening the casket, they were horrified to find the wrong body.
Jarjour has unsuccessfully contacted the consulate and Asistur for an explanation. She is left wondering where her father’s body is and whose body was mistakenly sent to Canada.
Adding to their ordeal, emergency services in Cuba took eight hours to arrive after Faraj Jarjour’s passing. Global Affairs Canada acknowledges the incident and offers condolences, but cites privacy concerns for withholding further information.
