Canadian Police Make New Arrest in Pro-Khalistan Temple Attack, Tensions Rise

The Canadian police have made a new arrest in the ongoing investigation into the violent attack on a Hindu temple in Brampton, Ontario, fueled by pro-Khalistan sentiments. The incident, which occurred last week, saw protesters vandalize the Hindu Sabha Mandir following a visit by Indian officials, igniting a wave of violence that spread to other locations in Mississauga.

On Saturday, Peel Regional Police announced the arrest of a 35-year-old man suspected of involvement in the attack. The suspect was apprehended with an assault weapon and is set to appear in court soon, according to Global News.

This latest arrest brings the total number of individuals detained in connection with the incident to five. Previously, authorities had apprehended a 57-year-old man on charges of public incitement of hatred, and a Peel police officer was also suspended.

The police investigation has revealed that multiple protests occurred during the demonstrations, with numerous videos surfacing online. One video, in particular, captured a person using a loudspeaker to incite violence, urging individuals to storm the temple. Other videos circulating on social media depict fistfights and people assaulting each other with poles on the temple grounds.

“There continues to be additional offences which are being investigated and we are certain that further arrests will occur,” Peel regional police chief Nishan Duralappah stated, as reported by Global News. “Each incident saw violence and hate. It is unacceptable and has no place in our communities,” he added.

The police are urging the public to come forward with any information related to the attack.

The clashes outside the temple resulted in one person sustaining injuries and receiving treatment from paramedics.

The escalation of the pro-Khalistan movement in Canada, marked by frequent vandalism of Hindu temples, has raised concerns about the safety and security of the Hindu community. The issue has also strained diplomatic relations between India and Canada, further escalating the tensions surrounding the incident.
