Candlelight Presents ‘Care and Forgiveness’: A Night of Film, Music, and Social Reflection

Candlelight is an innovative event project that uses music as a platform to explore social and political issues in new and engaging ways. Past events have included live performances with sign language performers and dialogues with prominent figures like artist and filmmaker Mami Kakudo and philosopher Rei Nagai. On September 11th, Candlelight will host “Care and Forgiveness,” an event that aims to foster understanding and empathy through film and music.

The event will feature a special screening of the short film “Gravity’s Light: A Record of Prayer.” Directed by Kai Ishihara, a renowned artist and filmmaker who has won the prestigious GQ Global Creativity Award, the film showcases the lives of individuals from diverse backgrounds who gather at the East Yawata Christian Church in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka. It presents a poignant documentary exploring their struggles, daily lives, and their connection to the church.

Adding another layer of artistic expression, the evening will also feature a live performance by BROTHER SUN SISTER MOON, a duo that has garnered significant attention for their unique blend of musical creativity and captivating melodies. Comprised of Ayu Megumi and Shohei Megumi, the duo’s music promises to be a captivating experience.

While political and social issues may seem distant, they are intricately intertwined with our everyday lives. “Care and Forgiveness” aims to bridge the gap between personal experiences and broader societal concerns through music and film, creating a space for reflection and connection.

The event’s organizers share a powerful message: “In a world where many people feel a sense of loneliness and isolation, regardless of their background or circumstances, it’s challenging to reach out to those who seem different, even from afar. This event offers a space to find solace in music, to confront our own wounds, and to explore the possibility of forgiveness and understanding with those who may be different from us. It’s a journey of care and connection, starting with the healing power of music and culminating in a deeper engagement with the film.”
