Canucks’ Demko Out for Game 2, DeSmith to Start

Vancouver Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko will miss Game 2 of their first-round playoff series against the Nashville Predators due to an undisclosed injury, head coach Rick Tocchet announced Tuesday. Demko, 28, made 22 saves in Game 1, a 4-2 Canucks victory, but will be replaced in net by backup Casey DeSmith. “Thatcher’s day to day,” Tocchet said. “We’ll evaluate him later today.” Demko missed a month after suffering a knee injury on March 9 but returned for Vancouver’s two final games of the regular season, finishing with a 35-14-2 record, a .918 save percentage, and five shutouts. DeSmith, 31, has appeared in 27 games for Vancouver this season, posting a 12-9-6 record with a 2.89 goals-against average and an .896 save percentage. He posted one shutout.
