Cape Elizabeth baseball players showed their resilience and determination Monday afternoon, defeating visiting Yarmouth 7-2 in a rematch of last year’s Class B South Final.
Junior ace Jameson Bryant pitched five strong innings for the Capers, allowing only one hit and striking out six batters. Offensively, Andy Choi and Bryant each drove in two runs, while Brady Inman and Max Hayward had multiple hits.
Yarmouth took an early lead in the top of the fourth inning on a two-run single from Sam Bradford, but Cape Elizabeth responded with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take control of the game. Choi singled in the go-ahead run, Bryant doubled in two more, and Charlie Song added an RBI single.
The Capers added another run in the sixth inning on an RBI groundout by Choi, and Harmon struck out the side in the seventh inning to seal the victory.
The win improved Cape Elizabeth’s record to 3-0 on the young season, while Yarmouth dropped to 1-1.
“We were fired up for this one,” said Bryant. “A lot of people on the team remembered last year’s game. We’re used to playing Yarmouth later in the season. We got them early this year and I think it’s just a good team win to beat them.”
The two teams will meet again on May 11th at Yarmouth High School.
