A car bomb detonated in northern Moscow on Wednesday, injuring an officer from Russia’s military intelligence agency, according to the Kommersant newspaper. The explosion occurred shortly after the officer and an unidentified woman entered a Toyota Land Cruiser. Russian media reported that the blast ripped through the vehicle, injuring two people.
Russia’s interior ministry confirmed the incident, stating that two individuals were injured in a blast caused by an unidentified device. They have opened a criminal case to investigate the incident.
Kommersant, a prominent Russian newspaper, identified the injured man as a member of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, commonly known as the GRU. Baza, a news outlet with connections to Russia’s security services, also confirmed the injured man’s affiliation with the GRU.
The state news agency TASS reported that an officer and his wife were injured in the explosion, with the man sustaining serious injuries to his feet. Five other vehicles were damaged in the blast, according to TASS.
