Car Crashes into Dunkin’ in Rhode Island, Teenager’s Wit Goes Viral

A car crashed into a Dunkin’ Donuts in Cranston, Rhode Island, on Tuesday morning, causing extensive damage to the coffee shop but no injuries. The driver, a 15-year-old boy with a learner’s permit, was learning how to drive with a passenger in the car when he accidentally put the car in drive instead of reverse. When his passenger told him to hit the brake, he reportedly hit the gas pedal instead, sending the car through the front window into the counter.

Brian Haibom, who witnessed the aftermath of the crash, told Nexstar’s WPRI that his mother was working inside the shop at the time and is grateful she wasn’t injured. “I’m happy she didn’t get hit,” Haibom said. “That would’ve not been good. I think they said it was a car malfunction.”

As of Tuesday afternoon, video shared by a WPRI producer of the incident had been viewed over 3.5 million times. The lighthearted reaction of Haibom and his mother to the crash has resonated with viewers, many of whom have shared their own stories of similar experiences.

Police said there were no signs that the driver was impaired. The incident remains under investigation, but thankfully, no injuries were reported.
