Coffee lovers, rejoice! Cardiff has officially been crowned the coffee capital of the UK, according to a recent study. The research, conducted by OnePoll.com and commissioned by Alpro Barista, surveyed 2,000 adults across the country and found that Cardiff residents consume more coffee than any other city in the UK. The average Cardiffian drinks over three cups of coffee daily, totaling more than 20 cups a week!
While Cardiff takes the crown for overall coffee consumption, the study also revealed fascinating regional preferences. Instant coffee reigned supreme in Cymru (Wales), while Liverpool emerged as the biggest fan of cappuccinos. Interestingly, Londoners preferred a latte, showcasing the diverse tastes across the country.
The study also delved into the details of coffee rituals, revealing a nation obsessed with their morning brew. Over two-thirds of respondents couldn’t imagine a day without coffee, with three-quarters considering it a key part of their daily routine. A whopping 38% claim their first cup of coffee sets them up for the day.
The average time spent brewing a cup at home is four minutes and 22 seconds. While 49% of respondents opt for a quick brew, a surprising one in five have intricate routines and rituals when preparing their coffee.
When it comes to the preferred method of coffee consumption, 31% prefer to make their coffee at home, while 34% enjoy purchasing it from a café. The study highlights the importance of the coffee making process, with six out of ten respondents believing it significantly impacts their overall enjoyment of the beverage.
The research also delved into the nation’s openness to trying new coffee types. A staggering 78% of respondents indicated their willingness to explore different coffee styles, yet a quarter admitted to never experimenting with their coffee preferences. This suggests a potential missed opportunity for coffee lovers to discover new and exciting flavors and textures.
Alpro, a leading plant-based milk brand, is encouraging the nation to embrace coffee exploration and experiment with new flavors and ingredients. They will be giving out free coffees in Manchester and London in September and October, inviting coffee enthusiasts to try their oat milk alternatives and discover the potential for new flavors in their favorite beverage.
