Carnival Cruise Line and the esteemed Maritime and Port University of Mexico have joined forces in a groundbreaking partnership, marking Carnival’s first collaboration with a maritime institution in the country. This alliance introduces an innovative cadet program within Carnival’s fleet, offering a pathway for students nearing the completion of their four-year degree at the university to gain practical experience at sea.
Under this novel partnership, cadets in their final year of study will embark on a 180-day apprenticeship aboard a Carnival Cruise Line ship. This hands-on training period will complement the theoretical knowledge gained throughout their academic journey, providing unparalleled opportunities for professional growth and development.
Carnival Cruise Line’s Chief Marine Officer, Domenico Rognoni, expressed his admiration for the Maritime and Port University of Mexico’s curriculum and its alignment with Carnival’s core values. He emphasized Carnival’s longstanding presence in Mexican ports for over 50 years and stated that this partnership would further strengthen the bond between Carnival and Mexico. By providing cadets with onboard experience, Carnival aims to create career opportunities and contribute to the advancement of the maritime sector in the country.
The Maritime and Port University of Mexico, established in 1972, is a leading institution renowned for its comprehensive maritime education programs. It is responsible for training all naval and merchant marine officers in Mexico and currently educates around 900 students across its three campuses in Mazatlán, Tampico, and Veracruz.
Captain Alt. Manuel Gutierrez Gallardo, Coordinator General of Mexican Ports and Merchant Marine, highlighted the significance of the agreement between the Maritime and Port University of Mexico and Carnival Cruise Line.
