Zach Hyman, Edmonton Oilers Find Success Through Defensive Commitment

Zach Hyman joined the Edmonton Oilers in 2021, eager to play alongside Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. While he anticipated offensive dominance, he may not have foreseen the team’s commitment to defense. This defensive focus has played a significant role in the Oilers’ playoff success, as they are now just three wins away from the Stanley Cup Final. Head coach Kris Knoblauch has instilled a mentality of sacrifice and a willingness to block shots and neutralize penalties. Despite their offensive prowess, the Oilers have also been stingy in their own end, allowing only 2.69 goals against per game in the playoffs. Hyman has been a key contributor, scoring 12 playoff goals thus far and providing a physical presence in front of the net. The Oilers are optimistic about their chances as they head into the Western Conference Finals against the Dallas Stars.

Edmonton’s Mosquito Population Remains Low Despite Recent Rain

The mosquito population in Edmonton, Canada, has remained low despite recent rainfall, according to the city’s resident bug expert. The dry spring and low moisture levels from snowmelt have contributed to the low mosquito population. While some hatching has occurred in roadside ditch habitats, the dry ground and thirsty plants have absorbed most of the water in agricultural areas, preventing significant mosquito development. The city is actively treating the roadside ditch habitats to control mosquito activity. Overall, the mosquito population is expected to remain low unless weather conditions change significantly, allowing for more mosquito breeding.
