Windshield Black Dots: Why They’re Essential for Vehicle Safety and Performance

The black dots on windshields, known as frits, play a crucial role in preventing damage, enhancing visibility, and facilitating efficient temperature regulation. They distribute temperature evenly, minimizing the risk of cracks from sudden temperature changes. Additionally, the dots help preserve the adhesive that bonds the windshield to the frame, ensuring its secure placement even in extreme temperatures. Furthermore, the dots reduce optical distortion, making straight lines appear straight instead of curved. While aesthetics also plays a role, the primary purpose of frits is to provide practical benefits that contribute to driver safety and vehicle functionality.

R42.1 Million Cash and R18 Million Property Seized from Markus Jooste’s Former Partner

The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) has seized R42.1 million in cash and an R18 million property from Berdine Odendaal, the alleged former romantic partner of late Steinhoff CEO Markus Jooste. The assets were confiscated just before the expiration of a deadline to seize her assets. The funds and property will be deposited in the state’s National Revenue Fund. The forfeiture order states that the state will confiscate funds from five of Odendaal’s bank accounts and seize an R18 million property in her name at the exclusive Val de Vie estate outside Paarl. The central bank blocked Odendaal’s accounts in late April 2021 after finding she had received R60 million in loans from a company linked to Jooste. The bank suspected that Jooste and Steinhoff had violated exchange control provisions when they brought the funds into South Africa.

Despite working as a respected healthcare assistant at Royal Bolton Hospital, Fletcher’s drug addiction led her to commit crimes to support her habit. She was caught stealing medication from a vulnerable woman fleeing domestic violence and had previously been convicted of multiple offenses. The judge rejected pleas for leniency, stating that Fletcher posed a risk to the public and her history of trauma did not excuse her criminal behavior.
