The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is actively investigating allegations of corruption at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, following the shocking rape and murder of a postgraduate student. This investigation has taken a significant turn with the revelation that the accused, Sanjoy Roy, had access to a bike registered under the name of the Kolkata Police Commissioner. Roy, who was a civic volunteer with the Kolkata Police, allegedly used this bike to visit red-light areas in north Kolkata on the day of the crime.
The CBI has conducted a second round of polygraph tests on Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Sources suggest that Roy’s position as a civic volunteer made him feel “invincible.” These tests were conducted by a team from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL). Earlier, the CBI conducted a polygraph test on the arrested accused, Sanjay Roy, in connection with the incident.
Adding to the investigation, the CBI’s anti-corruption branch conducted searches on August 25 at various locations linked to Sandip Ghosh and his relatives in Kolkata. These searches were initiated following a First Information Report (FIR) filed against Dr. Sandip Ghosh on August 24. This FIR was filed based on directives from the Calcutta High Court. The High Court ordered the CBI to investigate alleged corruption at the medical college after a single bench raised concerns about the matter. The Calcutta High Court has given the CBI three weeks to submit a progress report on the investigation, which is due on September 17.
The Supreme Court, hearing a suo motu case regarding the incident, ordered the security of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital to be transferred to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) earlier in the month.
The trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9. This tragic incident has sparked widespread outrage and calls for justice for the victim and a thorough investigation into the alleged corruption within the medical institution.
While the Kolkata Police stated that all government vehicles belonging to them are officially registered under the Commissioner of Police before being assigned to various units, the investigation continues to unravel the circumstances surrounding the crime and the alleged involvement of individuals within the medical college and the police department. The CBI is determined to ensure justice for the victim and to bring those responsible for the crime and any corrupt practices to account.
