The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) issued a clarification on Monday, denying reports that it had informed the Ministry of Education (MoE) about the feasibility of conducting biannual board examinations. The CBSE refuted claims circulating in certain media outlets that it had communicated to the MoE that holding board exams for classes 10 and 12 twice a year was not possible within the current academic schedule.
The CBSE took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to address the misinformation. They stated that the imputation in the news regarding their views on the matter was incorrect and unfounded. The CBSE further emphasized that there was no basis for these claims in any communication exchanged between the ministry and the board.
Earlier, several media outlets reported that the CBSE had informed the Ministry of Education that conducting board exams twice a year for classes 10 and 12 was impractical. This information was reportedly shared during a program on the National Curriculum Framework 2023 held on June 25th at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The media reports cited the CBSE’s reasoning that due to the presence of CBSE schools worldwide, conducting board exams in two shifts within the current system and policies would be impossible.
Last year, the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) suggested that biannual exams could provide students with additional opportunities to perform well and achieve higher exam scores. The NCF also recommended holding the board exams twice a year to alleviate the workload and stress on students.
