CDS II Exam 2024: Eligibility, Syllabus, and Exam Pattern

The Combined Defence Service (CDS) exam is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to recruit officers for the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. The exam is conducted in two stages: a written exam followed by an interview.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the CDS exam, candidates must meet the following criteria:

Nationality:

Candidates must be citizens of India or subjects of Nepal or persons of Indian origin who have migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, or East African countries with the intention of settling in India permanently.

Age limit:

Candidates must be between 20 and 24 years of age. The age limit for the Air Force Academy and the Naval Academy is 25 years, and 24 years for the Indian Military Academy.

Educational qualification:

Candidates must be graduates or in the final year of graduation.

Syllabus and Exam Pattern

The written exam for the CDS exam comprises three subjects: English, General Knowledge, and Elementary Mathematics (for IMA, INA, and AFA only).

English:

The English paper tests the candidate’s vocabulary, basic grammar, and comprehension.

General Knowledge:

The General Knowledge paper tests the candidate’s knowledge of current affairs, Indian polity, Indian history, economics, general science, and defence-related news.

Elementary Mathematics:

The Elementary Mathematics paper tests the candidate’s knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, trigonometry, geometry, and statistics.

The written exam is followed by an interview conducted by the Service Selection Board (SSB). The SSB interview assesses the candidate’s personality, leadership qualities, and communication skills.

Important Dates

The registration for the CDS II exam 2024 is open from May 15 to June 4, 2024. The written exam will be held on September 1, 2024. The SSB interviews will be held from October to December 2024.
