Cease, Wade Lead Padres to 3-1 Win over Rockies

Dylan Cease put on a dominant display, permitting just one hit across seven innings while recording eight strikeouts, as the San Diego Padres claimed a 3-1 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Monday night.

Luis Campusano contributed two hits for the Padres, including a double that ignited the game-winning rally in the eighth inning. Acquired from the Chicago White Sox earlier this season, Cease has lowered his ERA to an impressive 1.82, the best mark he has recorded through five outings in his six major league seasons.

The Padres have emerged victorious in 10 of their last 12 encounters with their NL West rivals, the Colorado Rockies. In the ninth inning, with runners on the corners, Robert Suarez induced a game-ending double play, securing the save and marking his eighth successful save of the season.

After taking an early lead courtesy of Jurickson Profar’s RBI single in the third, the Padres saw their advantage erased when Ryan McMahon drove in Colorado’s lone run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth.

The Rockies, who have trailed in every game they have played this season, have struggled offensively, scoring a mere 12 runs over their last eight games.
