On the momentous occasion of its 107th Foundation Day, Osmania University, a beacon of academic excellence, paid tribute to its rich legacy and unwavering commitment to higher education. Established in 1917 by Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan, the university has played a pivotal role in shaping the intellectual landscape of the region and beyond. Vice-Chancellor D. Ravinder Yadav, in his address, highlighted the university’s remarkable achievements, emphasizing the state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities that will serve the needs of future generations for the next two decades. He also reminded the students and faculty of their shared responsibility in upholding the university’s heritage and advancing its mission. A distinguished alumnus of the university, Vijay Kumar Saraswat, member of NITI Aayog, spoke eloquently about the transformative journey ahead, driven by a science-based economy. He shared insights from his years of research at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), highlighting the rapid advancements in science and technology and the need for an accelerated scientific method. However, he emphasized the paramount importance of sustainable development, encompassing economic, social, and environmental aspects. Principal Secretary (Education) Burra Venkatesham encouraged students to embrace the ‘4T model’ (talent, training, technology, tradition) to equip themselves for future success. Veena Gundavelli, a leader in FinTech in Silicon Valley and an alumnus of Osmania University, stressed the significance of skill-building as the key to excellence in any field. The Foundation Day celebrations were enriched by cultural performances, and a thought-provoking talk by poet and lyricist Jayaraju on the close connection between Telangana’s community, culture, and music.
