Celebrating Aviation Maintenance Technician Day: Behind the Scenes of Safety and Success

As we commemorate Aviation Maintenance Technician Day (AMT Day), we extend our heartfelt gratitude to our AMTs for their unparalleled contributions to the safety and quality of our aircraft. Their meticulous attention to detail and dedication to precision ensure the smooth operation of every flight, day after day.

From conducting pre-flight inspections and resolving technical glitches to performing comprehensive maintenance checks, our AMTs are the guardians of safety in the skies. We are particularly grateful to our skilled Maintenance and Engineering team that meticulously inspected our 737-9 MAX aircraft earlier this year, safely returning them to service.

This year, we celebrated the exceptional careers of several Maintenance and Engineering personnel, bestowing upon them the prestigious titles of “Alaska Legends” and “Horizon Pathfinders.” These individuals epitomize the highest standards of our profession, consistently striving for excellence and prioritizing the well-being of others.

Ahrens, one of our Maintenance and Engineering technicians, expressed his pride in the team’s dedication: “You learn something new every day, it’s never boring.” David Boyce, manager of line Maintenance, praised Randy for his unwavering positivity and willingness to go the extra mile.

Mark Williams, managing director of M&S ACSC Material Management, highlighted the exceptional problem-solving abilities of his colleague: “Early before most people are even up, he is digging into problems and finds solutions. He remembers everything he has worked on.”

Oueslati, who works with a small team of mechanics in Seattle, emphasized the collaborative spirit: “We are like a family. Everybody steps up to help each other.” Dale Sanderson, maintenance supervisor, commended Ben for his willingness to go above and beyond.

Weigand, a seasoned technician, shared his passion for finding challenges and solving them quickly. He emphasized the importance of mentorship and passing on knowledge to the next generation.

In addition to their unwavering commitment to safety, our AMTs are also recognized for their unwavering pursuit of professional development. For 22 consecutive years, Alaska Airlines’ Maintenance and Engineering Division has been awarded the Diamond Certificate of Excellence from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for its exceptional training and safety standards.

Horizon Air’s Maintenance and Engineering Division also earned their 20th Diamond Certificate of Excellence from the FAA in 2020, with a 100% participation rate in the AMT awards program.

Our AMTs are equipped with the latest aircraft maintenance technology, ensuring they have access to vital information for safe flight operations. Our Maintenance Programs provide aspiring aircraft technicians with the training and support they need to launch successful careers in this field.

Today, we celebrate the extraordinary contributions of our AMTs. Their tireless dedication and commitment to safety are the cornerstone of our success. Join us in acknowledging these unsung heroes who keep our aircraft soaring safely through the skies.
