Celebrity Chef Sam Stern’s Air Fryer Halloumi Fries: A Cheesy Sensation

British culinary sensation Sam Stern has set tongues wagging with a simple yet tantalising air fried halloumi fries recipe. Rising to fame following the publication of his breakthrough cookbook, ‘Cooking Up A Storm The Teen Survival Cookbook’ back in 2005, Sam has since been delighting foodies online with easy-to-follow home recipes. In an Instagram post from last year, Sam launched his ‘Cheese Chronicles’, starting with: “Ep. 1 of The Cheese Chronicles: Air Fried Halloumi Fries”, explaining: “In this series I will be exploring all types of amazing dishes involving cheese and sharing them with you. “If there’s any you’d like to see then comment below. These halloumi fries are packed with flavour, served with a fresh herby lime yoghurt, delicious toppings and that all important drizzle of honey.”

Sam’s cheesy creation sent his fans into overdrive, with Taylor raving: “Halloumi is always the way to go! ” Lucy was floored, exclaiming: “This should be illegal.”, reports the Daily Record. The praises continued, with Megan posting: “These look incredible.” I_stayfit added: “Now we’re talking! Look forward to more cheesy stuff Sam.” Even MasterChef 2012 champion Shelina Permaloo chimed in, impressed by Sam’s dish: “These look fantastic.” And food blogger Somebodyfeedkaz admired: “Absolutely beautiful sight for my eyes.”

Sam Stern’s Air Fryer Halloumi Fries

Ingredients

Sauce

* 75ml greek yoghurt
* 1 small handful of parsley or mint, finely chopped
* Juice of half a lime

Fries

* 400g block of halloumi
* 100g plain flour
* 1 tsp garlic granules
* 1 tsp onion granules
* 1 tsp oregano
* 1 tsp chipotle chilli flakes
* 1 tsp smoked paprika
* Pepper
* 1-2 eggs, beaten
* 100-150g panko breadcrumbs

Toppings

* Finely diced fresh chilli
* Mint or parsley
* Pomegranate
* A drizzle of honey

Method

1. Combine the yoghurt, herbs and lime in a bowl together to make the sauce.
2. Cut the halloumi into 1cm slices. Then cut each of the halloumi slices into three equal chip sized pieces.
3. Combine the spices and flour together, before coating the halloumi well in the flour mixture.
4. Follow this by dunking them in the egg and finally breadcrumbs.
5. Oil the air fryer and preheat to 185°C.
6. Add the halloumi in a well spaced single layer. Spray the tops and sides with oil.
7. Cook for eight minutes, turning half way and adding a little more oil to make sure the fries are extra crispy.
8. Plate the fries up, topping with the yoghurt, fresh chilli, herbs, pomegranate and a drizzle of honey.
9. Enjoy!
