CEOs Address Artificial Intelligence and Climate Innovation at TIME100 Summit

Innovation with artificial intelligence (AI) was the focus of discussions at the TIME100 Summit on Wednesday, with CEOs from both start-ups and tech giants emphasizing the need for an ethical approach.

Rosanne Kincaid-Smith, Group Chief Operating Officer of Northern Data Group, stressed the importance of collaboration between tech companies and industry leaders in driving better regulation. She noted that lobbying efforts should be considered a crucial part of contributing to the development of AI.

Kincaid-Smith also addressed concerns about the potential negative impacts of AI on the workforce, suggesting that such worries may be misplaced. She highlighted the artificial nature of AI and emphasized that it reflects the values and knowledge of its creators.

Justina Nixon-Saintil, Vice President and Chief Impact Officer of IBM, announced the company’s investment in climate modeling. IBM aims to develop an AI foundation model that will enhance the speed, accuracy, and accessibility of weather forecasting.

Mathias Wikström, CEO of Doconomy, emphasized the significance of climate literacy in achieving climate justice. Doconomy provides banks with financial tools to drive global climate action.
