The CFDA Awards 2024 was a night to remember, filled with fashion, music, and the celebration of creative talent. The evening kicked off with Willy Chavarria’s well-deserved victory as Menswear Designer of the Year, solidifying his position as a force in the industry. His win was celebrated at Jean’s Lafayette, a vibrant downtown restaurant-meets-club transformed into a multi-floor party venue. Surrounded by red carnations and roses, a nod to his signature aesthetic, guests, including Omar Apollo, Darren Chris, and Susanne Bartsch, mingled and enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere created by DJs Eli Escobar, Marco Neves, and Devoye.
Chavarria’s triumph brought together a diverse crowd of admirers and friends, from design contemporaries Raul Zepol of Luar and Christian Siriano to industry mainstays Julie Gilhart, Alton Mason, Paloma Elsesser, and Alex Consani. The event showcased the designer’s worldbuilding around notions of evolving masculinity and contemporary Chicano identity, reflecting his powerful impact on the fashion landscape.
The festivities continued with the Amazon Fashion and Coach-hosted after-party at Central Park’s Boathouse, where the party’s theme was ‘magenta-hued party lounge’. From plush carpets and curtains to curved sofas and numerous photo areas adorned with autumnal flora and fauna, the venue was transformed into a whimsical wonderland. The evening witnessed an array of notable names, including Jonathan Simkhai, Prabal Gurung, LaQuan Smith, Rebecca Minkoff, Fernando Garcia, Bach Mai, and Kate Barton, all adding to the already vibrant atmosphere.
The highlight of the after-party was undoubtedly GloRilla’s electrifying performance. The Memphis-born hitmaker had a whirlwind 24 hours, attending her first CFDA Awards as a guest of Coach and featuring on Tyler, The Creator’s highly anticipated new album. Her performance of the Grammy-nominated smash hit F.N.F (Let’s Go) ignited the crowd, with Angel Reese leading the enthusiastic response.
Adding to the party’s entertainment was a surprise strip tease burlesque performance by Violet Chachki, the RuPaul’s Drag Race season 7 winner. The room erupted in cheers as she performed to the song Closer by EDM duo Lemaitre, captivating the audience with her flamboyant performance.
The Amazon Fashion and Coach party was a testament to the power of fashion and music to bring people together, making the 2024 CFDA Awards an unforgettable event for all involved.
