CFDA Fashion Awards 2024: Nominees & Honorees Announced

The CFDA Fashion Awards, a highlight of the fashion calendar, are back and ready to celebrate the best of American fashion. The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) has announced the highly anticipated list of nominees and honorees for the 2024 ceremony, promising a star-studded evening filled with creativity and recognition.

This year’s event will be held on October 28th at the iconic American Museum of Natural History, a venue that proved to be a captivating backdrop for the 2023 ceremony. Amazon Fashion, the presenting partner, continues its support, underscoring the importance of the awards in promoting and celebrating American fashion.

The CFDA has also announced a special tribute this year: the Isabel Toledo Board of Director’s Tribute. This renaming of the namesake award honors the iconic and innovative American designer, Isabel Toledo. Her husband, Ruben Toledo, will accept the award posthumously.

In terms of awards, Daniel Roseberry of Schiaparelli will be honored with the International Designer of the Year Award. Michael Kors will receive the prestigious Positive Change Award for his dedicated work combating hunger through initiatives like Watch Hunger Stop, God’s Love We Deliver, and the United Nations World Food Programme.

The Media Award in honor of Eugenia Shepard will be presented to renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz, while Hamish Bowles will receive the Founder’s Award in honor of Eleanor Lambert. Stephen Burrows, a legendary figure in American fashion, will be recognized with the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award, a well-deserved accolade for his significant contributions to the industry.

The competitive categories are equally exciting. Catherine Holstein of Khaite, the reigning Womenswear Designer of the Year for the past two years, is absent from this year’s nomination list. This opens the door for potential wins for Tory Burch or Rachel Scott of Diotima.

Thom Browne, the current CFDA chairman, has a unique opportunity this year: he is nominated for both the Menswear Designer of the Year and the Womenswear Designer of the Year awards. Could he win both categories? The Olsen twins, Mary-Kate and Ashley, known for their minimalist brand The Row, are perennial nominees in the Accessories Designer of the Year category. Will they add another award to their collection this year?

“This year’s nominees and honorees represent the gamut of American fashion creativity and excellence,” stated Steven Kolb, CEO of the CFDA. “As our biggest fundraiser of the year, the CFDA Fashion Awards presented by Amazon Fashion significantly contribute to the CFDA Scholarship Fund to support tomorrow’s generation of designers and future nominees and honorees of this special night and we are grateful to Amazon Fashion for their leadership.”
