Yuzvendra Chahal’s stellar performance in IPL 2024 has raised eyebrows, with many questioning Virender Sehwag’s decision to exclude him from India’s playing XI for the upcoming T20 World Cup. With 14 wickets in 12 matches, Chahal has been instrumental in Rajasthan Royals’ success and is the tournament’s leading wicket-taker.
Sehwag, on the other hand, believes that Kuldeep Yadav deserves the nod alongside Ravindra Jadeja in the spin department. Speaking on Cricbuzz, Sehwag stated, ‘The first opportunity in the World Cup will be given to Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja.’
Chahal’s exclusion has sparked debate, given his impressive record. He is IPL’s all-time leading wicket-taker with 202 wickets in 157 matches and recently became the first Indian bowler to take 350 T20 wickets. Despite being sidelined for the ODI World Cup, his performances this season have raised questions about his omission from the T20 World Cup playing XI.
In Rajasthan Royals’ recent match against Chennai Super Kings, Chahal picked up a wicket, but it wasn’t enough to prevent a defeat. CSK chased down the target of 142 runs with ease, thanks to an unbeaten knock of 42 runs from Ruturaj Gaikwad.
After the defeat, Rajasthan Royals remain second in the IPL 2024 points table with 16 points from 12 matches, while CSK are third with 14 points from 13 games.
