Chandu Champion Box Office: Strong Opening Weekend, But Big Numbers Needed

Kartik Aaryan’s latest film, ‘Chandu Champion’, has made a promising start at the box office. The biopic, which chronicles the life of India’s first Paralympic gold medalist, Murlikant Petkar, opened to positive reviews from both critics and audiences. The film, directed by Kabir Khan, known for his blockbuster hits like ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ and ’83’, tells the inspiring story of Petkar’s triumph at the 1972 Summer Paralympics in Germany.

‘Chandu Champion’ saw a strong opening day collection of ₹ 4.75 crore. Fueled by positive word-of-mouth, the film witnessed a significant jump on its second day, earning ₹ 6.75 crore. This brings the total collection for the first two days to ₹ 11.5 crore. While these numbers demonstrate a strong initial performance, the film has a long way to go to reach profitability. Media reports suggest that the film’s production and advertising costs amount to ₹ 120 crore.

‘Chandu Champion’ also holds a place among the top ten films with the highest openings in 2024. It currently sits at number nine, with an opening day collection of ₹ 4.75 crore. The top three spots on this list are occupied by ‘Shaitaan’, ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’, and ‘Fighter’.

‘Chandu Champion’ features a talented cast, including Vijay Raaz, Bhuvan Arora, Yashpal Sharma, and Rajpal Yadav. The film’s music is composed by Pritam. Kartik Aaryan’s performance has been lauded as one of his best, while Kabir Khan’s direction has also received high praise. The film’s success hinges on its ability to maintain momentum and attract audiences in the coming weeks.
