The biographical sports drama ‘Chandu Champion’, starring Kartik Aaryan and directed by Kabir Khan, is now available for streaming on Amazon Prime. The film, which hit theaters on June 14th, tells the inspiring story of Murli Petkar, the first Indian Paralympic gold medalist. ‘Chandu Champion’ has garnered significant attention, particularly with the recent start of the Paris Olympics 2024.
The film follows the journey of the lead character, played by Kartik Aaryan, who faces numerous hurdles in his life, from financial difficulties to injuries sustained in war. These challenges force him to abandon his dream of winning an Olympic gold medal, but he eventually discovers the Paralympic Games.
‘Chandu Champion’ has been praised for its realistic portrayal of sports, particularly boxing. National-level boxer Tridev Pandey, who trained Kartik Aaryan for the film, stated that a proper showcase of sports is difficult unless the actor truly understands the sport. He emphasized that many previous sports dramas had failed to accurately depict boxing.
The film has been a commercial success, earning a total of ₹ 61.8 crore in India and ₹ 13.75 crore overseas. The first week of release saw the highest collection of ₹ 35.25 crore, though the third week saw a significant dip to ₹ 4.85 crore.
Kartik Aaryan has expressed his enthusiasm for the film, describing his experience as an actor playing an athlete as ‘an incredible experience and honor’. He also extended best wishes to the Indian team participating in the Paris Olympics 2024.
