Changi Airports International (CAI) and Wuxi Airport Group Establish Joint Venture for Non-Aeronautical Operations at Wuxi Airport
Changi Airports International (CAI), a global consultant, manager, and investor in airports, has teamed up with Wuxi Sunan International Airport Group Co., Ltd. (Wuxi Airport Group), a company fully owned by the Wuxi Municipal People’s Government of China, to establish a new joint venture.
This joint venture aims to oversee the non-aeronautical operations of Wuxi Shuofang International Airport (WUX). Over the next 20 years, the joint venture will exclusively manage five key aspects of the airport’s non-aeronautical operations. These include retail (including duty-free shops), food and beverage services, advertising, parking facilities, and passenger services within the airport’s terminals. Additionally, the agreement encompasses future management of Terminal 3 and the ground transportation center.
Eugene Gan, Chief Executive Officer of CAI, said , “Wuxi Shuofang International Airport plays a pivotal role in advancing Jiangsu province’s economic and tourism development. We are deeply honored and excited to start a new partnership with Wuxi Airport Group to jointly uplift the commercial positioning of Shuofang Airport. CAI will leverage its deep knowledge of the Chinese market and industry expertise to enhance the non-aeronautical performance of Shuofang airport. Among other things, we will improve the airport’s commercial layout and design, introduce more diverse and international retail and F&B selections, as well as create better leisure and entertainment options to enrich passenger experience.”
Wuxi Shuofang International Airport serves as a crucial transportation hub for the dynamic cities of Wuxi and Suzhou in southern Jiangsu, China. Located within the Yangtze River Delta Economic Zone, a pivotal economic and commercial region, the airport is surrounded by leading exporters in electronics, chemicals, and textiles. Its proximity to Lake Tai, China’s third-largest freshwater lake, also positions it as a convenient access point for domestic and international tourists keen on exploring this renowned scenic area.
As of the beginning of 2024, the airport facilitates travel to 42 domestic destinations and six international destinations for passenger flights.
