ChargeStop Opens Canada’s First Dedicated EV Station in Edmonton

ChargeStop Technologies Inc., a franchise-based EV-only service station concept, is set to open Canada’s first dedicated EV station in Edmonton’s Strathcona neighborhood on September 12, 2024. The grand opening ceremony, scheduled for 1:00 p.m., will be graced by the presence of Edmonton Mayor Amarjeet Sohi, who will participate in the ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8106 99 St. NW, just a short distance from Whyte Ave.

While traditional gas stations often neglect the unique needs of electric vehicle users, ChargeStop offers a range of amenities designed for convenience and comfort. Key features include:

Drivers can save time by booking online through the ChargeStop app, reserving their charging spot in advance and paying conveniently.
*

Safe Charging Environment:

ChargeStop prioritizes safety with on-site attendants, security cameras, and well-lit charging areas.
*

Modern Amenities:

The station features a built-in convenience store offering beverages, snacks, WiFi, comfortable seating areas, clean washrooms, and other essential services.

Tim Murphy, CEO of ChargeStop, emphasized the company’s commitment to making charging a pleasant experience for EV drivers. He noted that EV drivers have been largely overlooked by the service station industry, leading to difficulties in accessing basic amenities during charging. ChargeStop aims to address these issues with its comprehensive, app-driven, safe, and fast approach.

The company’s dedication to the growing EV market is evident in its plans to open additional locations across Canada in 2025. ChargeStop franchise sales are set to launch later this month, capitalizing on the surge in EV sales across Canada. Statistics Canada reported that new vehicle registrations for battery, hybrid, and plug-in electric cars soared to over 320,237 in 2023, a significant increase from 94,500 in 2019.

Heather McPherson, Member of Parliament for Edmonton Strathcona, expressed her enthusiasm for ChargeStop’s initiative. She believes that ChargeStop’s stations will play a crucial role in Edmonton and western Canada’s transition to a high-tech, low-emissions future, contributing to the fight against global climate change and the development of a lower-carbon economy. McPherson warmly welcomed ChargeStop to Edmonton Strathcona and expressed her hope that this first station will serve as a catalyst for the expansion of ChargeStop locations across the country.

ChargeStop’s experienced executive founding team, including Tim Murphy (CEO), Jean-Paul Demeria (Chief Growth Officer), John Hawes (Chief Operating Officer), and Roy Lakusta (Chief Revenue Officer), is committed to driving the success of ChargeStop and revolutionizing the EV charging experience in Canada.
