Fifteen-year-old Charlie Woods, the son of legendary golfer Tiger Woods, fell short in his bid to qualify for the 2023 US Open. Woods shot a nine-over-par 81 at The Legacy Golf and Tennis Club in Florida, finishing tied for 59th in the single-day local qualifier. With only the top five finishers from the 84-player field advancing to final qualifying, Woods’ hopes of making his US Open debut were dashed. This was Woods’ second attempt to qualify for a professional golf tournament this year, having also missed the cut in a pre-qualifier for the Cognizant Classic in February. Woods’ scorecard included one birdie, four bogeys, and three double bogeys, with a 40 on the front nine and a 41 on the back nine. The teenager has been making a name for himself in the golf world, having played alongside his father in the PNC Championship for the past four years. In 2021, the duo finished as runners-up in the 36-hole tournament, which pairs major champions or winners of The Players Championship with a family member. Despite the setback in the US Open qualifying, Woods’ performance and potential remain promising, and he will undoubtedly have more opportunities to shine in the future.
