Chelsea legend Ruud Gullit has slammed the club’s current crop of players, calling them ‘horrible’ and ’embarrassing’. Gullit, who played for Chelsea in the 1990s and won the FA Cup in 1997, said that the players ‘all think they are better than they really are.’
Gullit’s comments come after Chelsea’s recent 6-0 victory over Everton, which was overshadowed by a penalty shootout debacle. Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson argued over who should take the penalty before captain Conor Gallagher had to intervene and give the ball to designated taker Cole Palmer.
Gullit said that the dispute was ’embarrassing’ and that it showed that the Chelsea players ‘all think they are better than they really are.’ He also criticized the club’s lack of quality and said that they had signed too many players.
Chelsea are currently ninth in the Premier League table and face an uphill battle to qualify for Europe next season. They face a tricky trip to league leaders Arsenal on Tuesday.
