Rio Ferdinand criticized the Chelsea players for their lack of effort and intensity, calling their performance ‘men against boys.’ He said on BT Sport: ‘They [Chelsea] were second best all over the pitch today. This was men against boys.
‘They have been good in recent weeks and this season but today I thought they were way off it.
‘No Palmer, they were men against boys and they got absolutely destroyed today.’
The defeat extended Chelsea’s winless run in the Premier League to three games and left them 30 points behind leaders Arsenal. It was also Chelsea’s heaviest defeat under manager Mauricio Pochettino, who took over in January.
Chelsea have now lost 11 Premier League games this season, more than any other team in the top half of the table. They have also conceded 36 goals, the most of any team in the top 10.
