Chelsea’s Injury Woes: Palmer Doubtful, Gusto and Chilwell Also Sidelined
Chelsea’s preparations for their trip to Premier League leaders Arsenal have been disrupted by injury concerns, with star attacker Cole Palmer a doubt for the match. Palmer, who has netted 23 goals in all competitions this season, was spotted with strapping around his left thigh ahead of the FA Cup semi-final loss to Manchester City and appeared to be nursing an injury at Wembley.
The Blues have since confirmed that an illness could sideline Palmer for Tuesday’s clash at the Emirates, with the in-form attacking midfielder yet to return to training after the disappointing cup defeat. Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino told reporters that Palmer’s involvement is uncertain and that his fitness will be closely monitored over the coming days.
Chelsea, who currently sit ninth in the Premier League table, may also be without Marc Gusto and Ben Chilwell, who both suffered knocks at Wembley over the weekend. Despite the potential absences, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta stressed that his team is expecting a ‘tough match’ regardless of Chelsea’s starting lineup.
Arteta praised Chelsea’s squad depth and quality, highlighting that they have been performing better than people give them credit for. He also noted that Chelsea’s current situation is different from Arsenal’s recent struggles, emphasizing the distinct paths that the two clubs are on.
