Thiago Silva’s wife, Belle, has once again shared her criticism of Chelsea following their abysmal 5-0 loss to rivals Arsenal. The Blues were thoroughly outplayed at the Emirates Stadium, with former Chelsea player Kai Havertz and Ben White each scoring a brace after Leandro Trossard opened the scoring.
Silva, 39, was brought on as a substitute after 78 minutes, but by that point, Chelsea was already trailing 5-0. The defeat was a culmination of a difficult few days for the Brazilian, who was seen in tears following Chelsea’s FA Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester City.
After the match, Belle took to social media to post three emojis, all of which depicted shocked and embarrassed faces. This cryptic message was interpreted by many as a dig at Chelsea’s poor performance.
Belle has been outspoken about Chelsea’s struggles in the past. After a 4-2 loss to Wolves in February, she appeared to call for manager Mauricio Pochettino to be sacked. She tweeted: ‘It’s time to change. If you wait any longer it will be too late.’
Belle later apologized for her outburst, saying: ‘I’m sorry that my personal outburst as a passionate Chelsea fan has caused such an impact. I’m passionate about the team, I thrive on victories and I’m saddened by defeats.’
In January, Silva admitted that his career ‘was almost over’ and that he was ‘relaxed about his future’ despite having not yet agreed to a new deal with Chelsea. His wife, Belle, seemingly hinted at his exit on Saturday, posting a picture of herself on social media in the stands, with the caption ‘It’s the last dance at Wembley…’
After the match, Silva was asked by reporters about his future. He said: ‘You will know in the coming days. I don’t want to say anything now with my head in a defeat, a bit of sadness. But sooner or later it’s going to happen. The news will come out.’
Chelsea’s poor display against Arsenal was summed up by a young fan who held up a brutal sign during the game on Tuesday night. The sign read: ‘I don’t want your shirt. I want you to want to fight for ours. UTC (Up the Chelsea).’ Chelsea captain Conor Gallagher defended his team when asked about the sign, insisting they are ‘putting the effort in’ but admitted they were ‘nowhere near’ the levels of performance expected from them.
