The Chennai Airport is undergoing a significant upgrade to improve passenger transit. As part of this initiative, the airport will acquire 13 new electric shuttle carts, adding to the existing fleet of six carts. These eco-friendly carts will be used to transport passengers from the arrivals area to various points, including terminals, taxi stands, and the metro station.
The need for more carts has arisen due to the transformation of the former international terminal into the new second domestic terminal (T4), which is situated at the airport’s southern end. This terminal is more distant from the other terminals, metro station, and taxi stands, which are located in front of the multi-level parking facility. As a result, passengers of airlines like Air India, Vistara, Alliance Air, and Air India Express often have to walk long distances to reach the taxi boarding area.
The new carts will help alleviate this issue by providing a convenient and comfortable mode of transportation for passengers. The carts will be equipped with comfortable seating and easy access for luggage. They will also be strategically placed at various points throughout the airport to ensure that passengers can easily locate them.
The addition of these new carts is expected to significantly improve the overall passenger experience at Chennai Airport. The carts will reduce walking distances, provide a more comfortable and convenient mode of transportation, and help passengers reach their destinations faster. This will ultimately lead to a more positive and efficient travel experience for all passengers using Chennai Airport.
