Chennai Police Officer Shoots History-Sheeter in the Knee During Arrest

In a dramatic incident in Chennai, a woman sub-inspector shot a history-sheeter in the knee while attempting to arrest him. The incident unfolded around 4:30 am on Tuesday when a police team, led by sub-inspectors Jai Ganesh and Kalaiselvi, located S Rohit Raj, a 34-year-old man with 14 criminal cases against his name.

Rohit, a close associate of notorious rowdy Madurai Bala, was being sought by police in connection with three murder cases, including the murder of gangster Mylai Sivakumar. The police team cornered Rohit near a cemetery in Kilpauk.

During the arrest attempt, Rohit, armed with a beer bottle, attacked head constables Saravana Kumar and Pradeep, leaving them injured. Ignoring repeated warnings by SI Kalaiselvi to surrender, Rohit attempted to flee. In response, SI Kalaiselvi fired a shot, striking him below the knee.

Once Rohit was subdued, the police team apprehended him and rushed him to KMC hospital for treatment. Based on a complaint filed by the police, Rohit was arrested and subsequently admitted to the convicts’ ward at Government Stanley Hospital.

Police Commissioner A Arun commended SI Kalaiselvi for her swift and decisive action during the crisis, praising her for taking charge in a dangerous situation.

This incident underscores the risks faced by law enforcement officers during the course of their duty, especially when dealing with hardened criminals. It also serves as a testament to the commitment of the Chennai Police in their relentless pursuit of justice and public safety.
