The Greater Chennai City Police has recently welcomed three adorable Belgian Malinois puppies named ‘Carlos’, ‘Charles’, and ‘Lando’ into its Sniffer Dog Squad. These puppies will undergo rigorous training to assist the squad in various tasks, including crime detection, bomb detection, and drug detection.
The Sniffer Dog Squad plays a crucial role in aiding police investigations and assisting in the arrest of criminals. Their keen sense of smell allows them to detect minute traces of explosives, contraband, and other substances that might otherwise go unnoticed.
The squad currently comprises 21 highly trained dogs, with 14 specializing in bomb detection. These dogs undergo specialized training to quickly and accurately identify potential threats, ensuring public safety in the face of potential bomb threats.
Additionally, the squad also includes six dogs trained in crime detection and one dedicated to drug detection. These dogs play a vital role in assisting crime scene investigations and detecting the presence of illegal substances. Their keen noses aid in gathering crucial evidence and apprehending criminals.
The new puppies will receive comprehensive training to work in coordination with the police force, honing their skills and developing their capabilities to effectively support crime-fighting efforts.
Meanwhile, five retired dogs from the Sniffer Dog Squad are receiving well-deserved care at the Madhavaram Dog Squad kennels, a testament to the appreciation and respect given to these dedicated animals upon their retirement from active duty. The addition of these new puppies to the squad is a significant step in enhancing the capabilities of the Greater Chennai City Police in maintaining law and order and ensuring public safety.
