Chennai to Get New Brick-Designed Walls with GCC Logo

The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) is set to introduce a new aesthetic to public walls in Chennai. A new design has been approved that will feature brick-design structures and prominently display the GCC logo. GCC Commissioner J Kumaragurubaran stated that the primary goal is to enhance the visual appeal of public walls. This initiative will utilize buildings retrieved from encroachers. The commissioner emphasized that regional deputy commissioners have been tasked with surveying and identifying the precise number of buildings that require fencing.

The proposed walls will extend 2,400mm from column to column and will include a black grill. The compound will stand at a height of 900mm and a width of 230mm. The grill will prominently display the letters ‘GC’ on the first line, with another ‘C’ beneath it. The cost of fencing a 100-meter compound is estimated to be around 20 lakh.

The corporation is also planning to collaborate with the Water Resources Department (WRD) to address the issue of unfenced riverbanks. Along the 59km stretch of the Cooum River (29.5km on each side) from its mouth to Paruthipattu Anicut, only 31.04km has been demarcated by the WRD and Revenue Department, leaving 27.96km still undefined. The current plan is to construct fencing on the demarcated areas.
