Chennai World Cinema Festival 2024: A Global Celebration of Film

Get ready for a cinematic journey around the world! The Chennai World Cinema Festival 2024 is set to captivate audiences with a diverse selection of films from 51 countries. From October 4th to 10th, the Tamil Nadu capital will transform into a hub for film lovers, showcasing over 146 short films and feature films.

Organized by the Chennai World Cinema Trust and endorsed by the Ministry of Tourism, this festival is a testament to the power of cinema to connect cultures and inspire audiences. The festival has received an overwhelming response, with over 3,321 short and feature films submitted from 112 countries.

The inaugural ceremony, taking place on Friday morning, promises a grand opening with the participation of eminent personalities from the film industry and other fields. The Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Capaya Rodriguez Gonzalez, is expected to grace the occasion, further highlighting the festival’s global reach.

Venezuela will take center stage in the ‘Country Focus’ section, showcasing the country’s vibrant cinematic landscape. One of the highlights is the inaugural film, a Venezuelan production titled ‘The Inner Glow’.

The festival also shines a light on local talent with the screening of Gayathri Shankar’s Tamil short film ‘Pizhai’.

The festival is free to attend, making it accessible to all. Film enthusiasts can enjoy screenings at various venues including Prasad Preview Theatre, Saligramam, Periyar Thidal, and Vepery. Several educational institutions are also hosting screenings for students, providing them with a unique opportunity to engage with international cinema.
