Chennaiyin FC has made a significant move to bolster their defensive line by bringing back experienced right-back Laldinliana Renthlei. The 26-year-old Mizoram native, who previously played for the club from 2018 to 2020, returns after a season with Odisha FC. Renthlei’s first stint with Chennaiyin saw him play a crucial role in the club’s journey to the final of the 2019-20 ISL season. This signing marks his third ISL team, having also played for Jamshedpur FC after his first Chennaiyin stint.
Renthlei’s return has been met with excitement by Head Coach Owen Coyle, who expressed his belief in the player’s abilities. “I’m absolutely delighted to bring Dinliana back to the club. I worked with him during season six when we reached the ISL final, and he was an outstanding full-back. He also came with me to Jamshedpur, where we won the Shield. He’s a fantastic defender and a tremendous addition to the squad,” Coyle said. He highlighted Renthlei’s experience and winning mentality as valuable assets to the team.
Renthlei, similarly enthusiastic about rejoining Chennaiyin, emphasized the club’s winning spirit and the presence of Coach Owen as key factors in his decision. “Joining Chennaiyin FC again is very important for me, and I’m excited to give my best for this amazing club. The goal this season is clear – work hard, stay focused, and push ourselves to win the ISL. I chose Chennaiyin because of its winning spirit, the incredible fans and coach Owen, who I have worked with in the past and has shown faith in me by getting me to the club once again. Together, we’ll aim high,” Renthlei stated.
Renthlei’s arrival further strengthens Chennaiyin FC’s squad, adding depth and experience to their defensive unit. He joins fellow defenders Vignesh Dakshinamurthy, Mandar Rao Desai, and PC Laldinpuia, forming a formidable defensive line that will be crucial in their pursuit of ISL success. With his proven track record and hunger for victory, Renthlei will be a valuable asset to the club as they aim to challenge for the ISL title.
