Chennaiyin FC has made a significant addition to their squad ahead of the upcoming 2024-25 season by signing the promising Manipuri goalkeeper Mohammad Nawaz on a two-year contract. The 24-year-old Nawaz, a product of the AIFF Elite Academy, brings a wealth of experience and a reputation for excellence to the club.
Nawaz’s journey began at the age of 18 with FC Goa’s reserve side in the I-League second division, where his impressive performances earned him a spot in the main team. He played a crucial role in FC Goa’s successful campaigns, contributing to their Super Cup victory in 2019 and the ISL League Shield triumph in 2020.
In 2021, Nawaz moved to Mumbai City FC, where he continued to excel. He was a key part of the team that won the League Shield in 2023 and clinched the ISL title earlier this year. His impressive performances have also earned him international recognition, representing India at the U-17 level.
Nawaz’s arrival in Chennai marks an exciting addition to Chennaiyin FC’s goalkeeping ranks, joining fellow goalkeepers Samik Mitra and Prateek Kumar Singh. With 83 professional appearances and 23 clean sheets to his name, including 15 clean sheets and 150 saves in 65 ISL games, Nawaz brings a proven track record of success. Known for his quick reflexes, composure under pressure, and impressive shot-stopping abilities, he has also saved three penalties in the ISL.
Chennaiyin FC fans will be eagerly anticipating seeing Nawaz in action as he looks to contribute to the team’s success in the upcoming season.
